Barge Work: Getting Heavy Equipment Where Trucks Can't Go

Since 1998★ 5.0 on GoogleLicensed & InsuredOwner-Operated

Some waterfront projects simply can't be reached from shore — the lot's too tight, the bank's too steep, or the work itself is out on the water. That's what the barge is for. Outback runs barge-mounted equipment on Southeast Nebraska lakes for the projects that need machinery on the water: dredging, heavy material placement, seawall and dock work on water-access sites, and shoreline projects where protecting the landscaping matters as much as the work itself.

This is a capability very few contractors in the region have — and it's often the difference between "can't be done" and done.

What we do from the water

  • Dredging around docks, lifts, and swim areas (one customer: "great job dredging my floating shore station... on time and professional")
  • Rip-rap and boulder placement for shoreline protection
  • Seawall construction and repair on water-access-only frontage
  • Material delivery — sand, rock, fill — placed exactly where it's needed without driving across your lawn
  • Support for dock, lift, and beach projects

Lake & shoreline dredging

Sandpit and private lakes are always moving sand, and over a few seasons that shows up as a dock slip you can't get the boat into, a swim area gone to muck, or a beach that's slowly disappearing. Dredging pulls that material back out and restores depth where you need it. We handle dredging around docks, lifts, swim areas, and shorelines across Southeast Nebraska — one customer put it plainly: "great job dredging my floating shore station… on time and professional."

Heavy material placement & water-access construction

The barge is also how we get tons of rock, sand, and fill exactly where they need to go — rip-rap and boulder placement for shoreline protection, seawall and dock work on frontage with no equipment access, and material staged from the water instead of driven across your lawn. If a project can be floated to, it can usually be built.

Frequently asked questions

My lot has no equipment access. Can you still do the work?

That's exactly the problem barge work solves. If we can float to it, we can usually build it.

Is my dock slip getting shallower every year?

Sandpit lakes move sand — it's what they do. Dredging restores depth around docks and lifts so you're not trimming the motor up in July.

Do you dredge sandpit and private lakes?

Yes — that's most of what we dredge. Dredging around docks, lifts, and swim areas restores the depth these lakes are constantly filling in. We'll assess how much material needs to come out and where it should go.

How much does dredging cost?

It comes down to how much material has to move and where it can go — every site is different, so anyone quoting sight-unseen is guessing. We'll look at it and give you a real number.

Will barge work tear up my shoreline?

The opposite — it's often the way to avoid tearing up your property. Working from the water means no excavators across the lawn and no rutted-out landscaping.
